2025 ACRS Fellowship Award

The ACRS Fellowship Award is the highest honour bestowed by the Australasian College of Road Safety. It recognises individuals who have made outstanding and inspiring contributions to road safety through practice, research, or both, and who have significantly supported the mission and values of ACRS.

The ACRS first instituted the award of College Fellow in 1991. The list of Fellows (below), since the inception of the award in 1991, is a record of significant achievement by these outstanding individuals.

The Award celebrates a career of excellence, acknowledging achievements that have led to improvements in road safety knowledge, practice, or institutions. Nominees are individuals who have shown leadership and innovation, inspired others in the sector, and contributed to the growth and strength of the ACRS through sustained engagement.

Candidates must be current or past practitioners or researchers in road safety and active financial members of ACRS. The award process includes nomination by two ACRS members and the submission of detailed evidence demonstrating the nominee’s contribution to the field and to the College.

This prestigious award highlights the importance of peer recognition and the role of dedicated individuals in advancing the shared goal of reducing road trauma.
 

Award Criteria

1. The nominee must be a current member of the ACRS.
2. The nominee must have given evidence, over a period of at least five (5) years, of excellence in the field of road safety so that:
3. nominee is acknowledged by colleagues and co-workers as outstanding by virtue of contributions to road safety (rather than their position); and
   The nominee’s contributions must have noticeably contributed to substantial growth and improvement in an important institution or organisation, road safety knowledge, or aspect of thought and practice associated with road safety.
   The nominee must have delivered inspiring work within the road safety field that has made a positive impact on individuals, communities, or the profession as a whole.
   Be active in road safety advocacy, volunteering, research, or practice, and recognised nationally and/or internationally for their achievements.
   The nominee must have made a significant contribution to the work of the ACRS.rather than their position); and
   • The nominee’s contributions must have noticeably contributed to substantial growth and improvement in an important institution or organisation, road safety knowledge, or aspect of thought and practice associated with road safety.
   • The nominee must be active in road safety advocacy, volunteering, research, or practice, and recognised nationally and/or internationally for their achievements.
   • The nominee must have made a significant contribution to the work of the ACRS.
4. To enter, applicants must complete the official online entry form in full.
5. Nominees should be currently practicing in the field of road safety. Only in exceptional circumstances should persons who are retired or on the point of retirement be nominated. If a person is making an outstanding contribution to road safety, it should be acknowledged at that time.

Procedure for Nomination

• Fellowships are awarded through a nomination process only. Nomination must be made by two (2) ACRS Members.
• Nominations must be made on the online Fellowship Nomination Form.
• Nominations are strictly confidential and must not be made known to the nominee. The person concerned should not be informed of their nomination until formally invited by the ACRS President to become a Fellow.

General Information

ACRS Fellowship is not viewed as a reward for service but rather for making a distinctive contribution to the advancement of road safety. Nor is it awarded for reaching a particular position or rank. Excellence can be found at different levels of responsibility and the criteria for Fellowship are applied in relation to the level of responsibility held by a possible candidate. The nominee will be judged relative to those of a similar status, and the contribution made is expected to be outstanding relative to their peers rather than in relation to those of either higher or lower status or responsibilities.
