2025 CISC BC Awards of Excellence Project Submission Criteria
The CISC BC Awards of Excellence in Steel Construction celebrates exceptional design, teams, and projects that showcase the versatility, durability, and inventive solutions possible with steel.
This prestigious event recognizes outstanding contributions in the following categories:
Award Categories
Infrastructure Award
For infrastructure projects that have driven economic growth in the region, such as industrial developments, bridges, city transportation infrastructure, and train stations. Key considerations include economic impact, construction speed, durability, sustainability, cost, and site conditions.
Engineering Award
Recognizing engineering excellence in the design of steel structures where ingenuity, creativity, and innovation are the primary influencing factors in design and construction.
Architectural Award
Highlighting outstanding architectural design in steel structures where aesthetic considerations drive the design, emphasizing creativity and innovation.
Sustainability & Innovation
For projects showing leadership in advancing the steel construction industry through innovative design, new products, technological investments, sustainability improvements, safety enhancements, modular design, or the use of hybrid structures.
Cold Form Steel Award
Celebrates projects that effectively utilize cold form steel techniques, demonstrating the material's adaptability and effectiveness in various applications. Considerations for this award include the innovative use of cold form steel in construction, creativity, the impact on structural design, and successful implementation in diverse project environments.
Eligibility Criteria
Out of Province Projects: Projects outside BC are eligible if the Steel Fabricator is a CISC BC region member.
BC Projects: The Steel Fabricator must be a CISC member, and at least one team member must be from BC in one of the following roles:
Steel Fabricator
Consulting Engineer
Steel Erector
Steel Detailer
Submission Period: Projects must be completed between January 1, 2023, and December 31, 2025.
Category Limit: Projects cannot be submitted in more than two categories.
Submission Process
Online Submission: Register and submit your project via the official submission portal by the deadline of January 30, 2026 (midnight Pacific Time).
Required Information:
Project Name and Location
Team Members (Owner, Architect, Engineer, Fabricator, Detailer, Erector)
Project Description (up to 500 words) highlighting architectural, technical, sustainable, or innovative aspects
At least five high-resolution color photos (JPEG format)
Confirmation: Upon submission, a confirmation email will be sent. Submissions can be updated until the deadline.
Judging Criteria
Jury Selection: Projects will be evaluated by a jury comprising architects, structural engineers, academics, media, and industry associations, unrelated to the submitted projects.
Evaluation: Judging will focus on design ingenuity, sustainability, innovation, and the effective use of steel.
Final Decisions: Jury decisions are final, and they reserve the right to reclassify projects into different categories based on the submission details. Submitters will be notified of any changes and given the option to withdraw.
The 2025 CISC BC Awards of Excellence aims to showcase the best in steel construction, honoring innovation and excellence that drive the industry forward.
Winning projects will be announced at the BC Awards of Excellence in Steel Construction on May 28, 2026 at The Paradox Hotel Vancouver.
