AIA South Dakota invites your participation in the 2019 AIA South Dakota Design Awards program. The program is open to all AIA South Dakota architect members. Awards may be submitted as an individual AIA SD member or as a firm located in South Dakota having a majority of its principals as AIA SD members.

Categories
There are three award categories, Architecture, Unbuilt Architecture, and a rolling category. The 2019 rolling category is Master Planning & Community Design. Rolling award categories rotate between the three categories yearly. In coming years, the rolling category will include Preservation & Adaptive Reuse, and Detailing/Craftsmanship.

Each category is eligible for Merit and Honor awards. Honor Awards will be granted for overall design excellence and Merit Awards will be given where a particular aspect of the project design is deserving of recognition. The projects are not to be judged in competition with each other, but as a measurement of the project’s performance considering its own scope and potential. Projects of ordinary program or modest budget can merit an award based on the architects' skill in optimizing the design opportunity.

Winners
The architect and client of each winning entry will receive a certificate of the award, presented at the AIA South Dakota Design Awards Banquet on Sept. 13, 2019, in Sioux Falls. The winners will not be announced until the Design Awards Banquet.

Judging
All submitted projects meeting the requirements herein will be reviewed by a qualified, non-South Dakota jury of architects, selected by the AIA South Dakota Design Awards Committee. The jury may select as few/many award recipients as it see fit, and retains the option to not award in every category. The jury also determines the award level (Honor or Merit) for recipient projects.

It is important that no names or logos of architects, firms or consultants are included in your submittal PDF. Judges will NOT know the identity of architects or firms involved in any projects until after award decisions.

Eligibility and Authorship
• Projects must have been designed by architect members of AIA South Dakota. Where design input arises from two or more architectural firms, they shall be listed alphabetically, using the name of those firms at the time of their design contribution. The submitting firm must have a majority of its principals as AIA South Dakota members. All other participants, firms, and consultants substantially contributing to the project must be given credit as part of the submission.
• Previous AIA South Dakota Award winning projects are not eligible. Other previously submitted non-awarded projects are eligible for resubmittal, for a maximum of three total submissions.
• A project may not be submitted for multiple categories.
• Additional requirements for individual categories are listed on the following pages.

Submittal deadline
The deadline for submissions is 5 p.m. CDT, Aug. 2, 2019.

Registration procedure
Each project must be individually submitted online. Payment processing is done on a per-entry basis. You will receive a unique login as a user and have the ability to enter multiple submissions within that account. You can go back and review and edit your submission(s) until the deadline. After Aug. 2, 5 p.m. (CDT), no changes can be made to any submissions.

A $30 administrative fee will be charged to all withdrawn projects, where AIA has been notified in advance of the request to withdraw. After Aug. 2, no refund requests from entrants will be considered. There will be no refunds for submissions that are LATE,
INCOMPLETE, or disqualified per the deadlines/guidelines of this awards program.

Presentation board
In addition to the required PDF submittal, the AIA SD requests that a presentation board be prepared for all projects for display at the Convention, Design Awards Banquet, and to display throughout the state during the year.

Presentation boards must be a vertical (portrait) composition with a mix of photos and drawings, on 24” x 36” x 3/16” foam core board. Do not place in frames. Boards must be delivered to the registration table at the convention location (Ramkota) on Sept. 12 by 4 p.m. CDT for display at the Awards Banquet.

The firm name/logo may only be placed at the lower right corner of the board, and must not exceed 3” x 4” in size. The logo will be covered during the People’s Choice Award voting at the Awards Banquet. (Firm name/logo may not be included in the PDF submittal.)

Digital images
Attach two two images of each submitted project to the submission page and provide the photographer's name/company for proper crediting.

Release of images
All submitted photos and images may be used in publication by AIA South Dakota unless specifically requested otherwise. AIA SD will give photo/image credit when possible.
