Welcome to the IFMA Greater Toronto & South Central Ontario Chapter's Annual Awards of Distinction. Our Awards of Distinction celebrate the remarkable accomplishments of individuals, organizations, and partners within the facility management profession. Each year, at our Annual Gala & Silent Auction in November, we honor those who have significantly contributed to the advancement of our profession and our Chapter.

These awards encompass a variety of categories, including Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) initiatives, workplace innovation, and exceptional achievements by facility managers and emerging professionals in the field. These awards highlight the importance of sustainability, innovation, leadership, and professional development in shaping the future of facility management.

AWARD CATEGORIES

ESG INITIATIVE AWARD

The ESG Initiative Award recognizes an organization and/or an individual for their exceptional achievements in promoting and implementing Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) initiatives that contribute to the sustainability of our planet and society. This award highlights the importance of incorporating ESG considerations in decision-making processes and recognizes those who lead by example. 
 

QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE ESG INITIATIVE AWARD

ENVIRONMENTAL SUSTAINABILITY

The initiative should demonstrate a commitment to environmental sustainability through the implementation of practices that minimize the organization's environmental impact, such as reducing waste, conserving energy and water, and promoting the use of renewable resources.

GOVERNANCE

The initiative should demonstrate a commitment to strong governance practices, such as transparency, accountability, and ethical behavior, that ensure the organization operates in a socially responsible manner and considers the interests of all stakeholders.

SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY

The initiative should demonstrate a commitment to social responsibility, such as promoting diversity and inclusion, supporting community development, and ensuring fair labor practices.

INNOVATION

The initiative should demonstrate innovation in addressing sustainability challenges and creating new opportunities for sustainable growth.

IMPACT

The initiative should demonstrate a significant positive impact on the organization, its stakeholders, and the wider community.

 

WORKPLACE INNOVATION AWARD

The Workplace Innovation Award recognizes organizations that have demonstrated exceptional innovation in the design, implementation, and management of their workplaces. This award highlights the importance of workplace innovation in enhancing employee productivity, well-being, and engagement and in driving organizational success.

QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE WORKPLACE INNOVATION AWARD

INNOVATION

The workplace should demonstrate innovation in design, technology, or management practices that have significantly improved the work environment, enhanced employee engagement, or contributed to the organization's success.

EMPLOYEE EXPERIENCE

The workplace should prioritize the employee experience by promoting a healthy, safe, and enjoyable work environment that fosters collaboration, creativity, and well-being.

SUSTAINABILITY

The workplace should demonstrate a commitment to sustainability by incorporating eco-friendly materials and practices, reducing energy consumption, and minimizing waste.

INTEGRATION OF TECHNOLOGY

The workplace should leverage technology to improve efficiency, streamline processes, and enhance the employee experience.

WORKPLACE CULTURE

The workplace should promote a positive workplace culture that values diversity, equity, and inclusion and encourages employee growth and development.

 

THE FACILITY MANAGEMENT EXCELLENCE AWARD - FM OF THE YEAR 

The FM of the Year award is presented to an outstanding Facility Manager who is an active member of the International Facility Management Association (IFMA). This award recognizes a Facility Manager who has made significant contributions to the profession through their leadership, innovation, and commitment to excellence. The Nominee must be an IFMA Member.

QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE FM OF THE YEAR AWARD

PROFESSIONALISM

The Facility Manager should demonstrate the highest level of professionalism, ethical behavior, and commitment to the IFMA Code of Ethics.

LEADERSHIP

The Facility Manager should have demonstrated leadership qualities and made a significant impact on the organization or facility they manage, contributing to the overall success of the business.

INNOVATION

The Facility Manager should have implemented innovative solutions that have improved the efficiency, sustainability, or quality of the facilities they manage and contributed to the overall advancement of the profession.

COMMUNITY SERVICE

The Facility Manager should have contributed to the development of the FM profession through volunteer work, mentoring, or other activities that benefit the wider FM community.

CONTINUOUS PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

The Facility Manager should have demonstrated a commitment to ongoing professional development and education and actively contributed to the IFMA knowledge base through their participation in IFMA events, publications, or committees.

 

THE FACILITY MANAGEMENT EXCELLENCE AWARD - STUDENT/YOUNG PROFESSIONAL OF THE YEAR

The FM Student/YP (Young Professional) of the Year award is presented to an outstanding student or young professional who is pursuing a career in the field of Facility Management. This award recognizes the individual's exceptional achievements, leadership qualities, and potential for future success in the profession.
 

QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE FM STUDENT/YP OF THE YEAR AWARD

ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE

For a student nominee, the individual should have demonstrated exceptional academic achievements in Facility Management or a related field, including a strong academic record and involvement in academic projects, research, or competitions.

LEADERSHIP

The individual should have demonstrated leadership qualities and made a significant impact on their academic institution or the Facility Management community through involvement in clubs, organizations, or volunteer work.

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

The individual should have demonstrated a commitment to ongoing professional development through involvement in internships, mentorships, or other programs that provide hands-on experience in Facility Management.

INNOVATION

The individual should have demonstrated innovation in addressing Facility Management challenges and creating new opportunities for sustainable growth and success.

FUTURE POTENTIAL

The individual should have demonstrated the potential for future success in the Facility Management profession, including strong career aspirations, a passion for the field, and a commitment to making a positive impact.
