Outline:

Design and create a model of a science laboratory using sustainably sourced and recycled materials. The model should reflect a realistic and functional science lab environment, showcasing laboratory equipment, workstations and safety features relevant to the type of lab being modelled.

Materials and construction:

Models can be constructed using any materials of the participants' choice, such as cardboard, clay, wood, plastic, or recycled materials. Participants are encouraged to use creativity and resourcefulness in selecting and assembling material. Models should be sturdy and durable for display purposes. Each model must contain at least 1 item to be provided by Sponsor.

Size and Dimensions:

The maximum dimensions of the models should not exceed 3x3 feet. However, models must be large enough to showcase details and features but not overly cumbersome. The use of renewable energy sources is encouraged.

There are two categories for educational institution entries only. Groups must contain 4 students and 1 teacher.

1. Registration:

Register for the contest within the specified timeline: Monday, September 2, 2024, to Monday, September 30, 2024.

Submission:

Section 1: Photographs of the Model
- Photograph 1: Oblique/Profile/Side View – Capture the model from an angle that shows its overall structure and details.

- Photograph 2: Aerial/Bird’s Eye/View from Above – Provide a top-down view to showcase the layout and spatial arrangement of the model.

Section 2: Write up to 300 words to:
- Lab Description:
  - Lab Type: Outline the type of science lab you have created (e.g., chemistry lab, biology lab, physics lab).
  - Purpose: Explain the purpose of this lab in scientific research or education.
  - Functionality: Describe the specific scientific activities or experiments that can be conducted in this lab.
  - Incorporated Elements: Detail the key components and features of your lab model (e.g., equipment, layout, safety features).
  - Rationale: Explain why you included these elements and how they contribute to the functionality and effectiveness of the lab.

Prizes

All prizes will be non-cash awards equivalent to the value listed. Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine will purchase all supplies.

Primary School Prizes:

2nd Place: $400

High School Prizes:

1st Place: $700

Student Awards:

To be awarded to each student of the winning schools.

1st Place: $125
2nd Place: $75
3rd Place: $50

Special Award Prizes:

To be evenly divided among 4 members of the winning team

Most Creative: Total Value: $50
Most Sustainable: $50

Teacher Awards:

To be awarded to the teachers of the winning high school and Primary School.

Eligibility: Primary and Highschool students in St. Kitts & Nevis. Entries must be the original work of the contestant (except for permitted public domain material) and not have been published previously or submitted in another contest or competition and may not violate any third-party rights. Contest is Void Where prohibited. Odds of winning depend on the number of eligible entries received throughout the contest period. All prizes will be non-cash awards equivalent to the value listed. Approximate retail value of Primary School Prizes is 1st - $500, 2nd - $400, 3rd - $300 and High School Prizes are 1st - $700, 2nd - $500, 3rd - $400. Approximate Retail Value of Student Awards 1st-$125, 2nd - $75, 3rd - $50 to be awarded to each student per winning school. Approximate retail value of special award prizes is $50, to be evenly divided between four (4) members of winning school. Approximate Retail Value of teacher awards is $100 for 1st – 3rd place. Total retail value of all prizes: $4,500.
